at Indian River Memorial Hospital
Individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease (COPD) know the limitations this disease can incite, but
these limitation can be reduced. The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center
at Indian River Memorial Hospital is a medically supervised program
offering exercise training, respiratory care, instruction, smoking
cessation, nutritional counseling, psycho-social support, oxygen
therapy, and education. Pulmonary Rehabilitation is specifically
designed to treat those with emphysema, asthma, chronic bronchitis,
occupational and environmental lung diseases, as well as lung resection
(surgery) and transplantation.
Through individualized treatment plans, patients
can control and, sometimes, alleviate the symptoms and complications
of pulmonary impairment. Patients are taught to achieve an optimal
level of independence and physical capabilities which in turn improves
their quality of life. The program includes exercise for improving
both respiratory muscle strength and general physical conditioning.
All exercises will be monitored by a member or the Rehabilitation
Team who provide progress reports to the patient's primary physician.
IRMH offers Pulmonary Rehabilitation in Vero
